Gaming against Russian aggression
The whole world has united to resist Russian aggression against Ukraine. The gaming industry does not stand aside: various companies cut off cooperation with Russian and Belarusian partners, stop processing payments in Russian rubles, and fire the aggressor's propagandists.
Oleksandr Kostylev (s1mple), a well-known esportsman in Ukraine and abroad, transferred UAH 1 million for the needs of the Ukrainian army in the first days of the war and another UAH 500,000 after that. Later, Kostylev wrote on his Instagram account that, together with the team of the domestic company NAVI, he transferred another UAH 1.2 million to purchase ammunition. The company speaks frankly about Russian aggression, condemns the occupier’s actions, and fully supports the Ukrainian army.
The Ukrainian organizer of eSports competitions WePlay terminated all agreements and ceased cooperation with Belarusian and Russian partners. At the same time, the company remains an active employer for Ukrainian citizens and a reliable partner for other foreign companies. Employees work remotely and help the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Ukrainian citizens who have suffered from the actions of the aggressor.
The developer of the game World of Tanks, Wargaming, fired one of the top managers because he supported Russia's military aggression against Ukraine.
The world-famous gaming platforms Nintendo and Steam have suspended the processing of payments in rubles. At the same time, the owner of the Steam platform, Valve, blocked the transactions of Russian banks, including VTB, Sovcombank, and Novikombank.
DOU called on partners and colleagues in the gaming industry to join the #GamedevWithUkraine initiative and published an appeal to game development companies with Russian users. The purpose of the flash mob is to bring the truth about the war to users from Russia and Belarus, since they do not know what is really happening due to the false information that their local media is spreading.
The Ukrainian studio Frogwares, which develops games about Sherlock Holmes, expressed its position regarding the inadmissibility of the Russian invasion and called on partners to unite in the fight against Russian aggression.
The entire civilized world understands what is happening and expresses support for Ukraine. The gaming industry is one of the most progressive sectors of the economy in different countries. It cares about the observance of the rights and freedoms of people. Therefore, it cannot stand aside when it sees a gross violation of the norms of international law.
Video game developer CD Projekt RED from Poland donated PLN 1 million to an organization that collects humanitarian aid for Ukraine. The company calls on everyone not to be indifferent and to help our state in the fight against the aggressor.
11 Bit Studios, a well-known Polish video game developer, announced the transfer of all profits from This War of Mine in support of the victims of Russian military aggression.
Warsaw's Huuuge Games, Krakow's ALL iN! GAMES, London-based State of Play, and California-based Crytivo have also made efforts to help Ukrainians.
In addition to financial assistance and moral support, foreign companies create jobs for our fellow citizens. Thus, RedDeer.Games created 15 jobs in its Polish office, and the Bloober Team offers paid internships for Ukrainians coming to Poland.
